Critiques
The hollow and dead eyes of the child depicted contrasts with the delightful use of bright colours of blue, green, red, and yellow, the latter three comprising a flower growing out of the head, symbolising life out of that which is dead. This also symbolises an irony, given the child depicted is obviously not dead. In this way, the overall metaphor for the ironys of life and death are brought forth in a manner which is intended to be depressing, as indicated by the blue dress worn by the subject, blue being the traditional colour of sadness. The smile worn by the child is also indicative of further irony in this way.
