As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one.  Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one :) Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!

Over the past few months, we've been diligently working on cleaning up the category tree of old and unused categories.  While most of this will go unnoticed by the community, what you will notice is the change from "Miscellaneous" galleries to "Other".  The reason for this change is simple.  The concept of Miscellaneous leads one to believe that it's a junk drawer category for everything under the sun when the intention was to be an "Other" category for deviations that don't fit well in other sub-categories of the tree.  We're also working on u

In my opinion, one of the greatest advantages to the New Submission Process, are the thumbnail examples and descriptions that appear when you're selecting a category.  It's no secret that we have misplaced deviations throughout the galleries and it's probably the most complained about topic I deal with on a daily basis. My team and I have been working hard to improve the descriptions and thumbnail examples for all of the galleries, and I'm happy

I read a very interesting article this week debating Photography Vs Literature and which one of the two tells us more. Of course there is always the element that a picture could be accompanied by words but neither aspect is enough to tell a whole story. But as the article says, Photography has become a universal constant in the world today and is accessible to nearly everybody. Yet many still believe that only pure narration can truly tell a story. What are your thoughts? As Photographers we can choose to limit what we tell or show with a photograph, we can even mislead. Can we convey more with words? Or more with an image? You could describe a person with words but never truly give an accurate picture of who they are visually without a photograph...

That's right! All october is being dedicated to the Digital Art galleries over #ArtHistoryProject. A lot of great articles, features and interviews have been already posted, but the month is not over yet, so keep an eye on the group so you don't miss any of it! Here are just some of them:


Project Educate


As I mentioned in last month's newsletter, #projecteducate will be dedicated to Digital Art for the first week of december. I'm already doing some plans but I'm also looking for your input and collaboration. If you want to get involved let me know! I want this week to be the most community-powered as possible.



Spirit Day


Spirit Day is tomorrow! Show your support for this anti-bullying message on October 19th by participating in one or more of the following:
