What is this Awesome Achievement?
The Deviousness Award is an accolade which is traditionally handed out
on the 1st of every month to one truly outstanding deviant.

The Deviousness Award for September 2013 goes to faestock.

Well hello There :)
My Name is Jessica, I am a 24 Year old photographer from Perth, Australia.

Creativity, Imagination and Art are passions of mine, that have been threaded all through out my life.
I Work full time as a portrait photographer for an Awesome studio www.vivaphotography.com.au/
Earlier this year I was titled the Professional Family photographer for Western Australia.
And for the last Seven years I have been contributing model and landscape images to the Deviantart Stock Galleries.
Nerdfighter and Compulsive Solitaire player.

Hello Jessica! Congratulation on becoming September's Deviousness Award recipient. How did you receive the news? How did you feel about it?

I found out from my friend and fellow Stock Artist kirilee when she messaged me on Facebook.
I feel incredibly lucky. There are countless amazing artists on this website, so to be noticed amongst them is an honour.

You are an artist of many talents, but you're specially known for your Stock Photography. In a world where most artists are known for being very jealous of their own work, you create material for others to use. What made you decide to dedicate your effort to this?

There are so many incredibly talented artists in this world, more so than me, it is rewarding to be able to collaborate with them. Art can be be very representational of the artist who makes it, I find it interesting to see how other people can adapt and extend upon my photos. Knowing I can be a positive force to someone else's creativity, by providing stock photography, is very rewarding.

On a personal note it can also be difficult to see myself manipulated and edited into so many different forms. That people are using my face to realise concepts or to push messages that I may not personally agree with is uncomfortable. Finding a separation of my own self image to others interpretations is a tricky balancing act.

Initially it wasn't a well thought out decision to start providing stock, I saw other people who were providing stock images and it looked fun. Over time being involved with the Deviantart stock community has become a very important part of my personal happiness. There is also a self-centred satisfaction in seeing my own image in works of art.

By submitting your art onto an online sharing platform, it seems a little silly to be to precious about others being directly inspired by your work. Of course, it can be challenging when someone uses your images and then denies that you were apart of the work (i.e not crediting). By letting go of your jealousy, you may open yourself to fantastic opportunities to collaborate.

In your opinion, what advantages does deviantArt offer as a source of Stock Photography and other resources, compared to other sites?

The fantastic thing about DeviantArt, is that it fosters a community amongst its users.
By watching the artists who are using stock images you can see trends in what is being used, gaps in what is needed and this helps to  create stock images that are more usable to the community.
The artists who use our stock images can directly communicate with the people who provide their source material. And we all actively inspire each other to make more and better art.

Besides Stock, you also do some photography, photomanipulation, traditional art, etc. What do you enjoy the most about creating art?

I re-typed this answer many times, before I came up with something I was satisfied with.

I had trouble defining reasons about why being a 'creative' is so enjoyable, because it is so simply 'in my blood.' I think when you are raised in an environment where you are encouraged to apply creative thinking to everything you do in life, it becomes second nature.

This quote by Steve Jobs comes to mind:
"Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while"

For that, I have to thank my parents.

:iconelandria:
"Jess is a thoroughly talented, inspirational artist who never fails to create high quality, beautiful stock imagery for all manner of creative works. More than that, she is kind-hearted, generous with her knowledge and skills, and quick to support and encourage fellow stock providers and artists alike in their own endeavors. I couldn't think of anyone more deserving of the Deviousness Award!"

:icontasastock:
"Jess is a wonderfully kind person, who, despite having such a busy schedule, still makes time for her fellow deviants. She was actually my inspiration to get into doing stock myself. (So you all can blame her, not me, for the stuff I upload :P *ahem*) I don't know her that well, or, living 10,000 miles away I feel like I don't, but she leaves a great impression. She is so talented, selfless and graceful (seriously, the best way to describe meeting her, is like meeting a real-life faery. Have to say I was in serious awe/massive-freak-out-spazoids-fits-cause-I-got-to-meet-the-epic-Jess). She's such a down-to-earth sassy little lass that it's impossible not to love her. The Deviousness Award could not have gone to a better person!"

:iconcelticstrm-stock:
"Jessica is an amazing photographer, model, and artist who not only inspires the art community, but the stock community as well. Her stock is a top-notch, high quality gallery that reflects her creative, fun, and quirky personality. I was thrilled to see that she had been chosen for the Deviousness Award! She is a wonderful person and is an outstanding example of what the award is all about."

:iconpiratelotus-stock:
"I was so excited to see that Jess got Deviousness! Not only is it exciting to see someone from the stock community get it, but she is so deserving of this award! She does everything with kindness and an elegance that leaves you in awe. Jess is one of those people you try to be more like in every way you can; she is a wonderful model, photographer, stocker, and overall person!"

:iconkirilee:
"I have had the unique opportunity to work with faestock, aka Jess, on 3 different occasions. As a fellow stocker, can say that Jess is beyond amazing. What you see when she uploads an image is the quality of the image and the amazing modelling she also does. What you may not get to see is the dedication she has to the stock genre. Every photo, every costume, every lighting set up is perfect because she goes over it with a fine comb. She doesn't upload photos that don't meet a certain standard.
I believe this high standard she sets for herself should be the standard the rest of the community should be aiming to achieve.
Jess is inspiring as an artist, as a business woman, as a muse and as a person. She may not know it, but her work has helped shape a lot of people's mind that stock photography is a legitimate art form.
"

:iconcharligal-stock:
"There is so much to say, it's hard to know where to start. Jess is such a huge inspiration not only to stock users, but also to those of us who provide it.
My discovery of stock on DA started with some of Jess' stock and was one of many influences that inspired me to start creating stock in the first place.

She extremely talented and super sweet and down to earth as well. Getting to shoot and hang out with her last year was such a wonderful experience and she has so much knowledge to learn from.
"

With Art specifically it is a fantastic way to have a visible representations of all the thoughts, expressions and stories that I have, in a form I can share with other people. By sharing my own Art, I am sharing a part of myself, which can be confronting, therapeutic and inspiring. Its like I am letting people into my own little world. The impact that creating and also viewing art can have such a wonderful impact on peoples lives, for the artist themselves to their audience. There is a great satisfaction in creating something, that so many people can enjoy and relate to. To be an artist you really are sharing in something special. And I like feeling special :)

Do you have any favourite pieces from other artists who have used your resources?

Too many beyond count. It is a never ending stream of awesomeness, what I find in my inbox everyday.

Here are a few recents that caught my eye:

You had a birthday recently, congratulations! What would be a perfect birthday gift for you?

I don't think anything could top my last birthday. I call it 'The day of festivals'.

My two sisters took me to the annual Faire, with roller coasters, side show games, mirror mazes, followed by a surprise trip to the circus. It was a blur of neon lights, salty food and presents. The fun I experienced that day was a ridiculously wonderful gift.

Lets see if my 25th Birthday, this weekend, can top it :)
